What is EOS?

EOS is a decentralized, open-source platform based on Blockchain technology. EOS is a decentralized operating system that makes it possible to program decentralized applications (Dapps) and create smart contracts. EOS uses a special Delegated Proof of Stake (DPoS) consensus algorithm, which is the only one that meets the performance requirements for applications. The software provides databases, authentication, accounts, asynchronous communication, and application scheduling in hundreds of processor cores.  

History and ICO of EOS platform 

The EOS platform project is led by Block.One and the main developer of the project was BitShares (BTS) code developer, Daniel Larime. ICO of the project was launched on June 26th, 2017 and lasted until June 2nd, 2018, so it was one of the longest fundraisings in the history of crypto. During the ICO, 1 billion tokens were made available, of which 20% of the total pool was issued during the first five days. At the start of the ICO, the price of 1 EOS was 99 cents USD, and an impressive amount of more than 4.2 billion USD was raised during the sale of the tokens! 

On June 14, 2018, EOS ceased to be an ERC20 token on the blockchain Ethereum and switched to its own blockchain network. This process created some controversy around the project, as the token holders had to register their funds or place them on the crypto exchanges supporting them. Unfortunately, unregistered EOS tokens lost all their value.  

Delegated Proof of Stake algorithm – what is it?

The EOS platform is based on the Delegated Proof of Stake algorithm, so there is no digging process. There are no miners in the network, but there are block manufacturers who are responsible for approving transactions and adding more blocks. Everyone can decide to participate in the production of blocks.  This algorithm allows people with tokens to choose the producers of blocks through the voting system.
